Hello, Bali!

Days 1 & 2

I’ve finally landed in Bali after 23 hours of flying. Seeing the mountain tops peeking through the clouds as we descended into Denpasar made it all worth it though. The first thing I saw exiting the airport was all of the taxi drivers screaming “You! Lady! Taxi!”. A little bit overwhelming but nothing a kind, stern no didn’t fix. Once I found my driver, Yani, we headed off to the volunteer house.

The architecture here is amazing from what I’ve seen so far. There are flowers everywhere and so many statues of Gods and Buddha’s. The driving and traffic is INSANE. Motor scooters and trucks fly past each other and there doesn’t seem to be any rules of the road. The roads in Ubud are skinny and wind in hard turns. This is probably why I felt car sick the last 20 minutes of the ride.

Once I arrived at the Volunteer House, I got settled and layed down for a few hours. My body was exhausted and I felt so sick from the ride and from flying all day. After a long nap I woke up to hearing all of the other girls coming to the house returning from their weekend trips. I completely felt like the new girl in town meeting everyone who have already made friends. But luckily as the day went on, new girls arrived in my room. Three are from Canada and one from New Orleans.

I slept for a good 8 hours last night. It’s around 5am here in Bali and I’m thinking about going up to the third floor to catch the sunrise before my first day of orientation starts!
